Symptoms of Upper Extremity Venous Problems
Problems with the veins in your arms can cause these symptoms. If they sound familiar, ask your doctor whether an upper extremity venous Doppler study is right for you.

Arm Swelling
Swelling in the arm due to fluid buildup from reduced venous drainage.

Aching or Heaviness
Persistent ache, heaviness, or fatigue in the arm, especially with activity.

Visible Enlarged Veins
Veins may appear enlarged, twisted, or bulging under the skin.

Skin Discoloration
Darkening, redness, or brownish changes in the skin.

Warmth or Tenderness
Affected areas may feel warmer or tender to the touch.

Numbness or Tingling
Numbness, tingling, or "pins and needles" in the arm, hand, or fingers.

Slow-Healing Sores on the Hand or Arm
Sores or ulcers that heal slowly or recur in the same area.
When to seek emergency care
Sudden, significant swelling, warmth, and pain in one arm can be a sign of a blood clot and needs prompt medical attention.
