Symptoms of Right Upper Quadrant (RUQ) Problems

The right upper quadrant houses the liver and gallbladder. These symptoms may warrant evaluation — ask your doctor whether an RUQ ultrasound is appropriate.

Right Upper Abdominal Pain

Sharp pain in the upper right abdomen.

Discomfort after meals, especially fatty foods.

Pain that spreads to adjacent areas.

Nausea or Vomiting

Feeling sick or throwing up.

Bloating or Fullness

A sensation of fullness in the stomach.

Jaundice

Yellowing of the skin or eyes.

When to seek emergency care
